Latest Update from the Iranian Government in relation to Iranian visas for foreign nationals:

Latest decisions made by the Iranian Immigration and Passport Police with regard to the outbreak of COVID-19 and the problems in flights and passage through borders with some countries and confusion of foreign nationals and tourists:

Foreign nationals who entered Iran legally and with a valid passport via the visa-free regime and whose visa expiry date is after 01/12/98 (20/02/20), can stay in Iran until 01/03/99 (21/05/20) with no need to visit the Immigration and Passport Police Office. They will not be fined for overstay upon leaving the country; however, will have to pay visa extension fees at border checkpoints.

Foreign nationals whose residence permit was valid until the end of Esfand 1398 (19/03/20), do not need to renew their permit from expiry date until 01/03/99 (21/05/20). Afterwards they will need to visit the Immigration and Passport Police centres to have their residence conditions investigated according to regulations.

Those who hold valid student visas and want to leave the country will need to go directly to one of the official border checkpoints and pay the required fee to have an exit permit issued for them.

Foreign nationals with valid work permits will need to obtain tax payment statement from relevant authorities and give them to the Immigration and Passport Police to obtain an exit permit.
