Services for Australians Overseas

A key function of all Australian missions overseas is to provide services to Australians. The Australian Embassy in Tehran provides notarial and passport services (on a fee for service basis) and emergency consular assistance. Please see below for more information. 

In response to the Corona Virus (COVID-19), including measures put in place by local authorities, changes have been made to our services.  These changes are intended to protect you (our clients), our staff and the wider community.

Notarial services

Notarial services, such as witnessing and certification of documents, are provided by the Embassy on a fee for service basis under the Consular Fees Act 1955. Embassy staff are not able to waive fees, which must be paid in Iranian Rials cash only. Please see below for more information regarding fees.

The Embassy is open for booked appointments only from 09:00am to 12:00pm, from Sunday to Wednesday excluding public holidays. Appointments will be limited and reserved for those in genuine emergency situations.

Passport services

Passport services, including passport interviews, are available by appointment 09:00am to 12:00pm, Sunday to Thursday excluding public holidays.  Appointments will be limited until further notice, and appointments will be reserved for those in genuine emergency situations.

Passport fees are payable under the Australian Passports (Application Fees) Act 2005 and must be paid in Iranian Rials cash only. Please see below for more information regarding passport fees.


Emergency Consular Assistance

The Australian Embassy provides consular assistance to Australians who encounter difficulties overseas. If you have an emergency outside of normal business hours (Sunday to Thursday), please call the above telephone number and follow the prompts to speak to our 24 hour Consular Emergency Centre (CEC) in Australia. Alternatively, please call the CEC direct on +61 2 6261 3305.
